Diabetes is not often shown in movies. And when it is, it is usually full of stereotypes and misconceptions that people with diabetes already face every day. - Steel Magnolias (1989) - The story is based on Robert Harling's real life experience of the death of his sister, Susan Harling Robinson, in 1985 of complications from Type 1 diabetes.
- Panic Room (2002) - a David Fincher movie released in 2002, starring Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart as a mother and her teenage daughter, who suffers from insulin-dependent diabetes, are at home when a burglary begins. They lock themselves in a “panic room”, a room impossible to open from the outside, to hide from the thieves.
- That Sugar Film (2014) - Australian documentary directed by and starring Damon Gameau. The film looks at hidden sugar in foods and the effect it can have on the human body.
